Using Store Bought Desserts
Something that many home cooks worry about is using store bought desserts or desserts that aren’t made from scratch and then having either their guests or their family look down on them for not preparing their own home-made treats. This can cause a lot of anxiety especially for people that love to cook or bake but maybe just don’t have the time or resources to do it constantly. In these types of situations there is nothing wrong with using a store bought dessert or a dessert that comes from a box but if you’re still worried about friends or family calling judgement on you because of your lack of home cooking there are plenty of ways you can disguise the fact that the dessert wasn’t made by you or isn’t your own recipe.
The first thing you’ll want to do seems pretty obvious but a lot of times people completely forget to do this. Dispose of any evidence that you didn’t make the treat yourself. That means getting rid of any boxes, bags, containers and other such items that the dessert might have come in completely. Any bags or receipts that might have come with the dessert have got to go too. That means if you bought a cake from somewhere take it out of the box completely and put it on a cake stand or something otherwise it’s going to be pretty obvious that you didn’t make it. After all - who has cake boxes with bakery stickers on them just sitting around their house to put desserts in?
You also may want to go to some effort as far as decorations go when it comes to disguising your efforts. If you purchase a cake from a bakery that has ornate flowers on it but you don’t do that kind of decorating your guests are all going to know that you bought the cake. However there is a very simple way to get around this. Instead just order the cake from the bakery undecorated and buy some frosting from them as well. Then take your cake home, put it on a plate or a cake stand and decorate it yourself using their frosting. This will give it more of a home made look and feel to it and make it seem like you went to all that hard work yourself when really all you did was just put the frosting on it. You can use this method for lots of desserts, everything from cake and cupcakes to brownies and pastries. It’s really easy to buy frosting, chocolate, or even throw together a quick sugar glaze to put on top of a dessert just to have that illusion of having made the dessert yourself. This can also be something as simple and quick as just melting some chocolate chips and peanut butter on top of a tray of brownies that came from a box or mixing nuts into the batter before you bake them. Don’t underestimate the effect that little touches like that can have on fooling guests.
It’s really to disguise the fact that you’re using pre-made or store bought desserts as long as you get creative and do a little advance planning. Just think ahead and you’ll do just fine!
