Dessert Pizza

Whether you’re having an all around pizza party or just looking for a way to have a fun dessert or everyone that is quick and easy a dessert pizza is a great idea. It’s fun, creative, something other than the ordinary batch of cookies and it’s simple and quick to make. Dessert pizzas come in all different shapes and sizes and there are so many fun ways that you can customize the to meet the tastes and needs of whoever you are serving it to.

When it comes to the crust of a dessert pizza it’s a good idea to drop the traditional pizza dough favor of something a little bit sweeter and tastier - plus it will go much better with your toppings. Instead of pizza dough try using cookie dough flattened into one big “cookie” on a pizza pan. You can also use pie crust, graham cracker crust, or even cake batter to make the base of your pizza. Others will use crepes, brownies, quiche crust and so on to make their “dough” for the dessert pizza. There are plenty of fun things you can come up with here, it’s really all a matter of getting creative and deciding what will go best with the toppings you’ve picked out.

Once you’ve chosen a pizza crust you’ll want to decide how you’re going to hold your toppings onto it. Obviously marinara isn’t going to be the best plan here so instead thing of a sweet sauce you can use to help keep your toppings all together on your pizza. Lots of people will use chocolate fudge, caramel sauce, a strawberry sauce and so on. Others like frosting as their main sauce. One of the best ways I’ve found to do it though is to take a fair amount of whipped cream and spread it over the crust and then put all your toppings on it. The whipped cream will help hold your toppings on and it goes well with almost any crust out there - especially pie crusts. If you decide to use a chocolate or caramel sauce it’s best to put these on your pizza right after it comes out of the oven so they will melt. Not only with this taste really yummy but it will also help your toppings stick to the sauce when it’s warm. If you’re using whipped cream you may want to let it cool for a few minutes so that the whipped cream doesn’t melt off and become useless when it comes to holding your toppings on.

You can choose any kinds of toppings you like but the most common are, all kinds of candy, cookie dough balls, chocolate chips, maraschino cherries, frosting, nuts, raisins, and more. There really is no wrong way to go about it. A good way to do it is to cut slices of the pizza before hand and set all your toppings out in fun bowls that way everyone can pick out the toppings they like without having any of the ones they don’t. If you take the time to get it right you can find a lot of fun creations and varieties of dessert pizza so get baking!
